The sites’ problem

In the weighing areas of both sites, every weighing was written down by hand. The MES had to take over some of the practices of these areas. But SAP was arriving at the same time, and the process had to be adapted. Some operations done on the side, such as balance calibration, were brought into the MES. The client had defined a core model that covered the need. The work consisted of deploying it and configuring it for each site.

What we did

We worked within the project team as MES experts, through an integrator. We gathered requirements, analysed gaps against the shared model, configured the system, carried out qualification and provided post-go‑live support.

The balances are connected to the MES. The system checks the tolerance of each weighing and the balance’s calibration status. Material batches are identified by scanning. Some weighings fell outside the general case. For some operations, the container is weighed before and after use to calculate what was consumed. For others, pieces are counted from an average unit weight. These modes were configured too.

What it delivered

Both sites went live in the same period, on the planned dates. Within that scope, paper weighing sheets disappeared. Weighing errors and data integrity issues decreased.
